Sons of The American Legion Petaluma

Founded in 1932, Sons of The American Legion exists to honor the service and sacrifice of Veterans.

Sons of the American Legion members include males of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the U.S. military and were eligible for American Legion membership.  Although Sons have its own membership, the organization is not a separate entity. Rather, Sons of American Legion, also know as S.A.L. is a program of The American Legion.

Many Legionnaires hold dual membership in the Legion and S.A.L. The Sons at the local level are called squadron, which is sponsored by a local American Legion Post.

The Petaluma S.A.L. squadron is named Petaluma Squadron 28 and is sponsored by American Legion Petaluma Post 28.

The squadron is permitted flexibility in planning programs and activities to meet their needs, but must remember S.A.L.’s mission: to strengthen the American Legion four pillars:

  • Pillar 1 – Taking Care of Veterans
  • Pillar 2 – Strong National Security
  • Pillar 3 – Americanism
  • Pillar 4 – Children & Youth.
