American Legion Petaluma Riders Chapter 28 Update January 1, 2019

The Petaluma AL Riders 28 had their formation meeting on  December 27, 2018 at Beyond The Glory in Petaluma.  We met with Fred Branson , Area 1 VP for the California Riders. This was an informative high energy meeting.  In attendance members of the Riders Chapter:

Brian Bokkin, Michael Johnson, David Screen, Gary Thornburgh, Greg Soos, Ian Refuegio, John Mentz,  and Shelly Bokkin.  That makes 8 members.  Saturday, (I heard that we will have 2 new members, which put the number up to 10 members).

The Petaluma Post 28 members who came in support of the riders: Robert Marello, Steven Kemmerle, Mike Mcsween, Bob Hockenberger.

Also, our excellent mentor from the Healdsburg AL Rider chapter 111, was present.

The meeting to draft the bylaws and elect the officers will be January, 4 at 6pm at the Petaluma Veterans Building, 1094 Petaluma Blvd S, Petaluma, CA 94952.  The bar opens at 4 and  food is available at 5:30 for $3.00.  If you are interested in joining, please come and check it out.

First American Legion Petaluma Riders Chapter 28 Event

Bill Nay, our rider mentor, Michael Johnson, Greg Soos from our forming Petaluma Riders, and the Commander of the Petaluma VFW Glenn Ross meet at 0345 to ride to Mare Island.

They formed a flag line as the 801st Engineer Company boarded the busses.  Then, they escorted the busses to the airport at San Jose where they formed another flag line as the troops exited the busses. 801st Engineer Company will be deployed to Kuwait for 8 months.


Yes, it was early and very cold; but the Soldiers and their families really appreceated the assistance with the send off.
